Day 14, Back in Business

September 19, 2017

206 miles…

Got out of the dealer around noon and took off for Torrey, Utah. I planned to do a trip through Grand Staircase-Escalante National Park the next morning. A guy at the dealership told me I shouldn’t miss it. Roads to Torrey were quite scenic and I arrived about 6:00. It was also quite windy which isn’t a bunch of fun as you ride down the road getting pushed all over the place. Fortunately, I made a reservation about halfway because I began to see No Vacancy signs. I booked a room at the Broken Spur Inn right in Torrey. I booked a wagon room because it was all that was available. I didn’t really pay much attention to the details as I was just glad I found a room. When I checked in, they told me the room was out back and my bathroom was in a separate building not far away. I was surprised to see a circle of 10 covered wagons out back and I had unit 8. The bathroom building was in the center and each wagon had its own bath. Thought it was pretty cool except the wind was howling about 40 mph and the whole wagon was shaking with the canvas pounding against the supports. Have to wear my earplugs I guess. See the pictures in the Gallery and above. I had a fine steak dinner in the restaurant after a 45 minute wait. While waiting I met a nice family from Dayton. Small world…We had a pleasant conversation and the wait time went quickly. Fortunately, after dinner, the wind had subsided and I got a good night’s sleep.
