Day 7, Not much to see here

September 11, 2017

Sunday night, I turned on the computer and did a Google search for places to see in Minnesota. One of the attractions is the North Shore Trail along the Lake Superior shoreline. It is 140 mile run from Duluth to Grand Portage. That was just what I was looking for. It was almost 250 away from me but, what the heck, I’ve got nothing but time.

Another place I had never been was Duluth, MN. I rode through it without stopping. It’s a major shipping area with lots of water and some cool tall bridges. I was tempted to stop at the Duluth Trading Co. shop their but decided I didn’t want to negotiate the traffic and parking in downtown Duluth. I really like their products and I’m pleased that they built a store near me in the Lakeside Mall area north of Detroit.

The North Shore Trail was disappointment as it was highly commercialized and the lake views were for the most part uninspiring. Lots of views of Lake Superior but after awhile, the views look the same. Just lots of water out there. It reminded me of the ride up M25 to my house with the occasional views of the Lake Huron. So, for me the ride was not that interesting.

Did stop at the Split Rock Lighthouse and paid to take a tour. Interesting because they still have the original lens and fog signal building intact. We have had to reproduce both of those items at our lighthouse in Harbor Beach.

Finally found a funky motel room which was way overpriced and called it a night. I discovered a brewery right across the street and enjoyed dinner and a couple brews there. Good beer. Also watched the first half of Vikings, Saints Monday night football there. It was fun because of the partisan crowd.

    1. You know, I should have thought of that. He’s one of my favorite artists. I wasn’t really interested in dealing with city traffic though. I guess that comes from living in the boonies.
